Students Who Are Experiencing Houselessness

Students in Kansas City are entitled by law to continue at their schools even if their family becomes houseless during the school year. According to the McKinney-Vento Act, schools must make provisions for children and families who are in this position including providing free transportation to and from school even if a student is staying outside of the school district boundaries. It is the responsibility of the family to inform their child’s school about their housing status so that the school can begin providing necessary services.
